Idris Elba

IDRIS, the dance music alias of actor, DJ and producer Idris Elba, plays Cloud 11 Theatre in Bangkok on Saturday 26 September 2026, a one-night-only show presented by Collective Minds. The night runs under the banner Sound International x Bangkok, with WILDEALER and Elaheh on the bill alongside him. The promoter says the pair will bring their own take on Thai house.

Sound International is Idris Elba's house label and event brand, and this show is built around its "Never-ending house" ethos: global sounds and local scenes sharing the same night.

He was DJing before his acting break

Idris Elba was introduced to DJing by his uncle, who ran a sound system in London and took him along to gigs when he was small. As a teenager he took drama classes at school and went home to make beats on a Casio keyboard, and once he was working as an actor he kept DJing at London club nights such as Twice as Nice. DJing has stayed with him for more than four decades.

The move to New York came before his major acting breakthroughs, and he found his way into the city's club scene fast with sets that ran through two-step, funk, reggae, calypso and salsa. That mix became the groundwork for IDRIS, a sound that runs the music of his upbringing through tech house, progressive house and a taste for experimental rhythms. Under that alias he has held residencies at Pacha, Pikes and Hï Ibiza, and has played Glastonbury and Coachella.

The label behind the night

His recent singles follow the same instinct. "The Drum", made with SIO, sets amapiano-style log drums against distorted piano with a light drum and bass pulse underneath. "Fires", a collaboration with Fabienne, pushes further into tech house and reworks material that first appeared on his 2015 album Murdah Loves John. Both came out through Sound International.

Idris Elba founded the label in 2025 with Cam Ward and named it after his uncle's 1980s London sound system. "I love the sonic spectrum of Afro music," he says of the inspiration behind it. The label put out 22 releases in year one with artists from the UK, Nigeria, South Africa and beyond, and its roster has included DJ Lag, HoneyLuv, JYOTY, Nitefreak, P-rallel, Syreeta and Coco & Breezy.

The label prefers signing artists who drive the music scene at home over sounds that already own the mainstream, and that is the thinking the promoter points to for this lineup. From the organiser side, Thailand is described as home to one of the most exciting and fastest-growing house scenes right now, with WILDEALER and Elaheh named as two of the artists leading it.

Collective Minds, an independent touring and entertainment company in Asia, has produced and promoted tours for Fred again.., Jamie xx, Black Coffee, Boris Brejcha and Sammy Virji, and is now expanding into Australia.
