After rumors circulated last night that legendary duo Daft Punk would perform at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics, fans went wild. Within hours, the news was picked up by media outlets around the world!
In a recent interview with France Inter, Thomas Jolly, the director of the opening ceremony, spoke about the possibility of Daft Punk appearing at the event. "It would be great if they were there," he said. "It would be something unexpected."
However, a representative for Daft Punk told Pitchfork magazine that the duo would not be reuniting for the 2024 Olympics. "This is a rumor and is not true," the representative said.
Jolly later clarified that he had spoken to Daft Punk, but the duo declined to participate in the opening ceremony.
This is a shock to the world, as the duo has not toured since announcing their breakup in February 2021. A performance at the 2024 Olympics would have been a major event, and it would have likely drawn a large crowd to Paris.
