Martin Garrix and U2's "Fireflies" Is Out Today, One Week After Its Tomorrowland Mainstage Debut

Martin Garrix has officially released "Fireflies", his collab single with U2, today (July 24) after an earlier pre-save period. The looping hook "Fireflies, you and I are fireflies" is the same one the entire crowd heard on the Mainstage of Tomorrowland Belgium last Friday.

- The Night The Edge Walked Onto the Mainstage -

The track debuted on Friday, July 17, the opening night of Tomorrowland Belgium Weekend 1 in Boom, Belgium. Martin Garrix saved "Fireflies" for the closer of his set, then invited U2 guitarist The Edge to come up and play the guitar on it in front of the whole crowd.

The Edge appeared alone. Bono, the band's frontman, did not join him on stage, but his vocals are in the track itself. In the same set, Martin Garrix also played a section of "Bizarre", the track he made with Madonna.

- Five Years in the Making -

"Fireflies" is not the first time these two camps have worked together. In 2021, Martin Garrix released "We Are the People" feat. Bono & The Edge, the official song of UEFA EURO 2020, and later that year he co-produced U2's "Your Song Saved My Life" for the Sing 2 soundtrack. Bono has also co-written three of Martin Garrix's originals: "Angels for Each Other" and "Weightless" in 2025, and "Catharina" this past March, the first track Martin Garrix sings on himself.

The timing of "Fireflies" also lands as both camps have albums on the way. Martin Garrix confirmed in June that his next album, the follow-up to Sentio (2022), arrives late 2026, while U2 have a new album coming within 2026, their first album of all-new songs since Songs of Experience in 2017, with lead single "Street of Dreams" out in July.

- Tomorrowland Weekend 2 Starts Today, Streaming Live -

Release day falls right on the opening day of Tomorrowland Belgium Weekend 2 (July 24-26). Tomorrowland streams the Mainstage and Freedom Stage via its YouTube channel, website/app, and Apple Music, starting at 14.00 CEST, around 19.00 Thailand time.
