When you and your friends worry about phone battery, bathroom lines, drink stands, or when the DJ comes on stage almost half of the crowd is thinking about something else.

A new study shows that music festivals are not just about the lineup and stage shows. For many people, they also feel like one of the biggest dating events in the world.

The study, done by ZipHealth, asked more than 1,000 people in the US and UK about their festival habits. The answers show that sex, risk, and even music taste play a big role in how people enjoy festivals.

Main Findings

• 48% are open to short-term flings.
• 19% have had sex at a festival (22% of them are millennials).
• 62% of men said yes to casual sex, but only 35% of women said the same. Women worry more about health and safety.

• 33% said in the middle of the crowd.

• 46% did not use protection.
• 62% said drugs were involved.
• 92% said it was unplanned.

Not everything is just casual. 13% said they fell in love at a festival, and 9% continued into a real relationship.

• Hip-Hop and R&B are the most popular hookup genres, followed by EDM.
• The hottest festivals for hookups are Burning Man (47%) and Download Festival (42%).
• The top artists people like for sex: The Weeknd, Rihanna, SZA, Beyoncé, Arctic Monkeys, and The Killers.
