Tomorrowland Belgium 2026 Weekend 1 Recap: Martin Garrix x U2, Calvin Harris' First Time

22 July, Wednesday 66
Festival

Tomorrowland Belgium wrapped up Weekend 1 of its 2026 run on July 17-19 at De Schorre in Boom, Belgium. The festival reached its 20th edition this year under the Consciencia theme, unveiling the largest Mainstage in its history, standing over 43 meters tall and 140 meters wide with six sculpted heads representing six emotions, with tickets fully sold out.

One thing set this weekend apart from every previous year: all three nights ran without a single firework, under an order from the mayors of Boom and Rumst together with the provincial governor, banning pyro across Weekend 1 due to Code Orange fire risk caused by severe drought. Drone shows were not an option either, as the site sits close to Antwerp airport. Even without pyro, every one of the three nights still delivered a defining moment.

- Friday: Martin Garrix Premieres a New Single With U2 -

Martin Garrix closed the Mainstage on night one at 23:45 CEST and used the set to premiere "Fireflies", his brand new single with U2. The Edge, U2's guitarist, joined him on stage to play guitar over Bono's recorded vocals. The two camps are no strangers, having made "We Are The People" together for Euro 2020, and Martin Garrix posted that the full track is coming soon.

Earlier that night, Sebastian Ingrosso took the Mainstage at 22:45 with a set packed with Swedish House Mafia era tracks, and Steve Angello joined him on stage as "Happiness Is So Sad", Swedish House Mafia's new single featuring Lykke Li, got its first ever play.

- Saturday: Dimitri Vegas Stands Alone for Like Mike -

The second night carried the heaviest emotions of Weekend 1. Dimitri Vegas performed the Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike slot at 22:15 alone, after Like Mike, his brother and the other member of the duo, announced a touring break for health reasons on July 16, just one day before the festival began.

The set was filled with Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike classics and hard dance edits, but mid-set, Dimitri Vegas paused to speak about his brother, saying that Like Mike was heartbroken to miss the festival, asking the crowd to send him strength, and that everyone is waiting for the day they stand on stage together again. We Rave You reported it as the first moment of its kind in Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike's history at the festival. Read the full story on Like Mike's touring break here

David Guetta closed the Mainstage that night at 23:30, with MORTEN and MARTEN HØRGER jumping in mid-set. Over at the Freedom stage, Armin van Buuren closed at 22:30 with a trance set mixing new IDs with classics, while earlier at 18:00 the same stage hosted Symphony of Unity, a 50-piece live orchestra performing music by Swedish House Mafia, Daft Punk and Martin Garrix.

- Sunday: The Surprise Slot Revealed and Calvin Harris' First Time -

The final day started with a reveal. The SURPRISE slot at 19:40 belonged to Charlotte de Witte, announced through Tomorrowland Daily, the newspaper handed out on site on Sunday morning. The timing also marked 15 years since she first played the festival as Raving George in 2011.

Closing the Mainstage and Weekend 1 itself was Calvin Harris at 22:50, playing Tomorrowland Belgium for the first time in his 20-year career. His only previous appearance in the Tomorrowland universe was TomorrowWorld in the United States in 2013. The set stacked hits like "Sweet Nothing" and "This Is What You Came For" alongside his new single "Blessings" with Clementine Douglas, brought John Newman out to sing "Blame" live, and closed with "I'm Not Alone" from 2009.

The same Mainstage day also featured John Summit with an Experts Only themed set at 20:40, and the warmest moment of all three nights, as B Jones returned to the Mainstage at 18:55 after recovering from cancer.

- Missed Weekend 1? Weekend 2 Streams for Free -

Tomorrowland Belgium 2026 continues with Weekend 2 on July 24-26, with Hardwell set for the Mainstage and both Martin Garrix and Calvin Harris returning for round two. The pyro ban covered Weekend 1 only, and a decision on Weekend 2 still rests with local authorities.

The official livestream is free to watch on the festival's website, app and YouTube, starting around 14:00 CEST, which is 19:00 in Thailand.
