In 20 years of existence, Tomorrowland has only officially hosted its festival in four countries: Belgium, Brazil, France, and Thailand. Over two decades, it turned down invitations from hundreds of nations. The fact that Thailand is the fourth country on that list, and the first in Asia, raises one obvious question.
Why Thailand?
The answer, revealed through an interview with Rachata Thunyavuthi, Managing Director of VR ONE World Thailand, the official rights holder for Tomorrowland Thailand, is more interesting than any business case could explain.

Other Countries Offered 4 to 5 Times More Money
Before Tomorrowland settled on Thailand, the festival received serious proposals from several other Asian countries including Singapore, Vietnam, and China. Every single one of them offered financial support four to five times larger than what Thailand put on the table. Singapore in particular came in with an extremely generous offer.
By any standard business logic, Thailand should not have been the answer. But Tomorrowland chose it anyway.
The reason given by the Tomorrowland founders was that Thailand had something money cannot buy. A world-class tourism infrastructure, 24-hour food culture, abundant and quality accommodation, genuine Thai hospitality, and a low crime rate. These are not things that can be installed quickly. They are the result of decades of development, and for a festival whose audience flies in from around the world and stays in the country for days before and after the event, they matter enormously.
The Moment a Sunset Closed the Deal
The story of how Wisdom Valley became the venue has never been widely told.
When the Thai team brought a Tomorrowland partner to see the site for the first time, it happened to be a clear-sky afternoon at golden hour. Standing at the top of the hill at Wisdom Valley in Chonburi, with sunlight reflecting off the lake below and natural terracing spreading out across the land, everything aligned with the brief the founders had given: a large body of water, layered hillside terrain so audiences at the back can see the stage, and something that felt like a miracle.
The Thai team video-called the founder on the spot. The founder watched the footage. Within one week he was on a plane to Thailand.
That is how Wisdom Valley was selected over other shortlisted sites including Bang Phra Reservoir and a nearby golf course.

What Makes Wisdom Valley Special
Wisdom Valley is a 1,400-rai property belonging to the Theepsuwan family in Chonburi, approximately 90 minutes from Bangkok. Tomorrowland Thailand will use 400 rai for the festival itself and another 200 rai for parking.
The terrain matches the DNA of the original Tomorrowland site in Boom, Belgium: a lake, layered hillsides, and enough open space to host 50,000 people per day without feeling crowded.
The Thai construction team also impressed the Belgian team significantly. Reclaiming the lake bed to support stage structures weighing thousands of tonnes per square metre, a process that typically takes three months internationally, was completed by the Thai team in under one month.
The main stage itself is being shipped directly from Belgium in 126 shipping containers, as it is a structure that does not exist in Thailand.
Tomorrowland Thailand Will Not Be a Copy of Belgium
One of the most important details that has not been widely reported is that Tomorrowland Thailand will not simply replicate the Belgian edition. Out of seven stages at the festival, three will come directly from Belgium: the Main Stage, Freedom Stage, and Core Stage. The remaining four stages will be designed in collaboration with Thai culture.
One of these is the Muay Thai Stage, which will feature an actual Muay Thai boxing ring as part of the stage structure, with a traditional four-directional pitched roof design. This stage will serve as the primary platform for Thai artists.
Other stages will incorporate traditional Thai motifs including kanok patterns, Thai textiles, and cultural elements woven into the structural design. The goal is for anyone who has attended Tomorrowland in Belgium or Brazil to feel that Thailand is unlike anywhere else the festival has ever been.
The food offering follows the same philosophy. Of approximately 200 food vendors at the festival, at least 50 percent will serve Thai food from all four regions of the country, curated specifically for the event. Tomorrowland Thailand effectively becomes a soft power showcase for Thai cuisine and culture at a global level.

50,000 Tickets Sold Out in One Hour
When tickets went on sale, 50,000 tickets per day sold out in under an hour, matching the pace of sell-outs in Belgium.
The audience breakdown revealed something interesting. Thai buyers accounted for 20 to 25 percent of total ticket sales, below the 35 percent the organizers had initially targeted. Pre-registration numbers from Thailand were lower than expected, which reduced the allocation available to local buyers. Asian buyers overall accounted for 40 percent, with the remaining 30 percent going to buyers from Europe, the Americas, and Australia.
Many international attendees are not just coming for the festival. A Discover Thailand package offering 500 slots was added alongside ticket sales, allowing international visitors to extend their trip to Chiang Mai, Phuket, and other destinations after the festival.
The organizers have confirmed there is a possibility of releasing an additional 10,000 tickets per day if the Eastern Economic Corridor approves funding for a fourth access road to the venue in time. Currently three access routes exist, and Tomorrowland's rules require that travel time from the venue to accommodation must not exceed two hours. If approved, the additional capacity may be offered exclusively to Thai buyers to give local EDM fans a second chance.
The Cost Comparison That Explains Everything
For Asian attendees, the financial case for Tomorrowland Thailand versus Belgium is stark. Flying from Asia to Belgium with accommodation and food costs an estimated 200,000 baht per person. Attending Tomorrowland Thailand from within Asia costs approximately 30,000 to 40,000 baht, a reduction of nearly 75 percent. That accessibility gap explains why demand from across Asia was so strong from the moment the festival was announced.

The Next Five Years and Beyond
The agreement between VR ONE World Thailand and Tomorrowland is a five-year contract. The first year carries no profit expectation, with the focus entirely on delivering a world-class event. By year three, the team is targeting expansion to two weekends, mirroring the Belgium model. The Tomorrowland founder has already confirmed that if the five-year run goes smoothly, the partnership will continue beyond that.
For the Thai EDM scene, this is not simply a festival being held on home soil. It is proof, in the most concrete terms possible, that Thailand is ready to be a global events hub. For 20 years, Tomorrowland chose only three other countries. Thailand is the fourth. That is not a small thing.
