Many still remember the series of allegations that shook the bass music scene, with multiple artists facing accusations of sexual abuse and misconduct. Among them was Bassnectar, who had been entangled in a legal dispute for over five years. Now, Lorin Ashton, better known as Bassnectar, has reached a private settlement, officially closing the civil lawsuit filed against him.

The case first emerged in 2020 when Bassnectar disappeared from the music industry following allegations that surfaced on the Instagram account @evidenceagainstbassnectar. The accusations quickly gained traction, sparking widespread backlash and leading him to announce an indefinite hiatus from performing and producing music.

In April 2021, Rachel Ramsbottom, Alexis Bowling, and Jenna Houston filed a lawsuit against Bassnectar and his company, accusing him of sexual misconduct. However, as of February 18, 2025, court documents from the U.S. District Court in Tennessee confirm that the case has been officially dismissed. The dismissal comes with a stipulation preventing the case from being refiled, indicating that both parties reached a private settlement.

Following the resolution, Lorin Ashton spoke to Billboard, stating, “I’m relieved to finally move past this. Let me be clear, I have never done what I was accused of in this case. I have never harmed or abused anyone in any way, and I have never faced criminal charges. This process has been long and exhausting, and I am eager to return to what I love most, creating music and art for my fans.”

The settlement follows a motion Ashton filed in December 2024, seeking to dismiss the case based on claims that the plaintiffs misrepresented their ages. However, the judge rejected parts of his motion, meaning the case could have gone to trial this month. Instead, a private agreement was reached, officially bringing the lawsuit to a close.

Despite the case’s conclusion, discussions and debates surrounding the accusations and Bassnectar’s future in the music industry continue among fans and the broader community.
