Fire at Rong Beer Na Ladprao: What Happened, the Official Statements, and Safety Checks Before Your Next Night Out

A fire broke out at Rong Beer Na Ladprao, a restaurant and bar with live music on Ladprao Road near the Ha Yaek Ladprao intersection in Bangkok's Chatuchak district, close to midnight on July 12, 2026. Firefighters brought the blaze under control in roughly 30 to 35 minutes, but the fire left both fatalities and injuries.

A musician performing that night said he saw smoke coming from a breaker box near the stage, then the power went out across the venue, followed by an explosion, and thick smoke filled the room within moments. That matches the initial assessment from forensic police, who placed the fire's origin around the stage area, with an electrical short circuit as the suspected cause, reportedly possibly involving an air conditioning unit above the ceiling. All of this remains preliminary, and specialists were scheduled to conduct a detailed inspection of the scene at 9:00 AM on July 13.

- The Official Statements: Blocked Escape Routes and Fire Spreading Along the Ceiling -

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt gave an initial briefing at 2:47 AM on July 13, saying the deceased were found clustered near the venue's escape routes. The venue had two escape routes, obstructions are believed to have made evacuation difficult, and the fire spread quickly along the ceiling through decorative materials.

During his site visit, Chadchart Sittipunt found a table blocking one of the two escape routes, while witnesses at the scene consistently reported that the fire exit door did not open, there were no fire exit signs, and no fire alarm went off. One escape route reportedly ran through the kitchen, and the entrance was reportedly narrow. All of this is under official investigation.

Chadchart Sittipunt has ordered the Chatuchak district office to set up a coordination center for the families of the deceased and injured, and to urgently inspect the venue's operating license, safety standards, and fire escape system, along with reviewing measures to prevent a repeat.

Before the fire, customers had left reviews warning that the venue had only one way in and out, and the venue had responded that the issue was addressed, according to Thairath. Company records show the venue operated as Rong Beer Na Ladprao Co., Ltd., registered on November 14, 2024.

- The Fierce Flames in the Clips, and Evidence the Fire Barely Reached the Floor -

Evidence from the scene shows plastic tables and chairs in several spots were barely burned, suggesting the fire never spread intensely at floor level. Most of the deaths are believed to have been caused by inhaling toxic smoke from decorative and ceiling materials. Put simply, the early evidence suggests the deadliest thing in the room that night may not have been the flames on the floor, but the smoke that filled an enclosed space fast enough to knock people unconscious.

As for the footage of flames bursting out of the building, many have asked whether it contradicts that evidence. What can be confirmed for now is the musician's account of an explosion after the power went out. Why the flames surged outward while the fire inside stayed relatively low has no official conclusion yet, pending the detailed inspection that began on the morning of July 13.

- Safety Checks You Can Run Yourself, Starting Tonight -

Several outlets have compared this tragedy to the Santika Club fire of 2009, a nightlife safety lesson that keeps coming back. While the investigation continues, there are things all of us can check the moment we walk into any venue.

  1. Spot at least two exits before you sit down, and remember where they are. If the power goes out and smoke fills the room, there is almost no time to look.

  2. Notice whether exits and fire escapes are blocked by tables, cabinets, or decorations. A blocked route is not a real route.

  3. If a venue has a single narrow entrance, think ahead about how you would get out.

  4. In a fire, the main danger is smoke, not flames. Stay low, head for the nearest exit, do not stop for your belongings, and do not retreat deeper into the venue.

  5. Notice whether the venue has fire alarms and exit signs. A venue that invests in these is a venue that puts its customers' safety first.

On the legal side, the deputy national police chief has ordered forensic teams to examine the scene, gather evidence, and question those involved to determine responsibility, while the Prime Minister visited the site and ordered an urgent investigation into the cause. As of July 13, no arrests or charges have been reported, and the venue's owner is reported to be among the injured. For families still unable to reach their loved ones, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has set up a coordination center at MRT Phahon Yothin station, Exit 4, or you can contact Phahon Yothin police station at 02-512-2447-9. EDM Addicts will follow the case and report as confirmed information emerges.

The EDM Addicts team extends our deepest condolences to the families of those lost, and our hearts are with everyone injured as they recover.
