When Martin Garrix left Spinnin' Records in 2015, it wasn’t just a label switch. It became one of the most public legal disputes in modern electronic music. The Dutch producer, known for tracks like Animals and Scared to Be Lonely, took his former label and management to court over ownership rights to his early releases. The case involved millions in royalties, broken contracts, and accusations of deception. For years, the relationship seemed permanently fractured.
In 2017, a Dutch court ruled in favor of Martin Garrix, nullifying key contracts he had signed with Spinnin' Records and MusicAllStars Management as a teenager. The ruling restored ownership of his early tracks, including Animals and Wizard, and confirmed that the agreements had involved a conflict of interest. Although Spinnin' Records later appealed and the legal process continued through the Dutch Supreme Court in 2021, Martin Garrix retained full control of his catalog. He went on to establish STMPD RCRDS and entered a global partnership with Sony Music, distancing himself entirely from his former label. For years, the idea of a reunion between Martin Garrix and Spinnin' Records seemed highly unlikely.
That changed in 2025 with the release of Our Time, a collaboration between Martin Garrix, David Guetta, Afrojack, and Amél. The track marks the first official release involving Martin Garrix and Spinnin' Records since their legal separation. While neither party has issued a formal statement about the renewed partnership, the appearance of Our Time on Spinnin’s release calendar signals a shift in what had long seemed like a closed chapter. The collaboration also brings together three of dance music’s most influential producers on a label that once shaped Garrix’s early career.
Our Time is released at a time when all four artists continue to lead in different corners of the electronic music scene. For Martin Garrix, working with David Guetta and Afrojack on a Spinnin' Records release reopens several ties from earlier in his career. While the track itself makes no reference to the past, its release highlights how much has changed since the original dispute. Whether this signals a longer-term shift or remains a one-off collaboration, it stands as a meaningful entry in both Martin Garrix’s catalog and Spinnin' Records’ recent history.
