A fire broke out at the Tomorrowland mainstage on Wednesday afternoon, just 48 hours before the world-renowned festival is set to open in Boom, Belgium. Eyewitness footage captured flames tearing through part of the massive stage structure, with thick smoke rising above the site as workers looked on. The fire occurred during the final build phase, at a time when no public attendees had arrived and crews were completing the last stages of installation.
Local fire services responded quickly and managed to bring the situation under control. No injuries were reported, and safety teams evacuated workers from the area immediately after the flames were spotted. At the time of reporting, the cause of the fire remains unconfirmed. Authorities and organizers are conducting investigations to determine what started the blaze. While damage is visible, there has been no announcement yet on how much of the stage was affected or if parts of it will need to be rebuilt before Friday.
Tomorrowland’s mainstage is typically unveiled as one of the most visually elaborate constructions in the global festival scene. The scale and complexity of the design often take weeks to assemble, involving coordinated efforts between engineers, designers, and production crews. A disruption of this magnitude so close to the event raises concerns about possible delays or changes in the stage programming. The Gathering, Tomorrowland’s official opening party for DreamVille residents, is scheduled for Thursday evening and may also be affected depending on the structural assessments.
So far, Tomorrowland organizers have not issued a public statement about the fire. Fans around the world are closely monitoring updates from official channels, eager to learn whether the opening schedule will move forward as planned. As one of the most anticipated events on the global festival calendar, Tomorrowland faces enormous pressure to resolve the issue quickly. More information is expected to follow once safety inspections are completed and the extent of the damage is fully assessed.
